Lost Winds is a Wii Ware Launch Title that has come out May 12th 2008 with the launch of the Wii Ware Service. Spending the last week and a half with it and getting to know this title has been rather interesting to say the least.
The story is about the Wind Spirit Enril who has been trapped for some time along with an evil being known as Balasar. After the evil being gained enough strength and broke free, Enril wakes up a young boy called Toku. From there, their adventure begins as they go and solve many puzzles and increase Enril's powers as they try to free the other spirits from a curse that Balasar has put on them. The story itself could have used a little bit more work, but then again that is what so interesting about the game as well.
Game play elements are very simplistic. You use the Nunchuck + Wii Remote combination to play Lost Winds. The analog stick moves Toku while the on screen cursor is the Wind Spirit Enril, witch you control via Wii Remote. You solve puzzles by using the power of Enril to move rocks, break objects and defeat enemies while you guide Taku through the maze's and use him to grab items. Very simple, but enjoyable.
The music is good, very soothing melody playing in the background and a nice rhythmic drum beat when there are enemies around to make you aware. A nice quirk to the game is that when you move your cursor over trees or brush you get to see them sway with the wind. That was rather nice image effect they have there and I thought to be very clever to add on.
Overall the grade for Lost Winds is a B+. It did a nice job of keeping interesting and making you want to continue, but nothing epic in the story or game play. This game is definitely worth the 1,000 Wii Points if you want to try something new on your Wii Console and have already tired of Brawl or Mario Kart.
